Abstract: Delivering optimal care to a patient requires pulling together information and resources from a myriad of providers. This is made all the more difficult in that the providers - physicians, nurses and pharmacists alike - must collaborate in an environment that is by nature fragmented and dislocated. As healthcare in this country transforms to handle an explosive growth in patient needs and demands, we need technologies that will bring providers together and promote the provision of team-based, collaborative care. Perhaps no environment captures the chaos and unpredictability of healthcare delivery better than a quaternary care academic medical center like the Lucille Packard Children's Hospital (LPCH) at the Stanford University Medical Center. In this talk, I will present several collaborative projects between the HP Labs and LPCH as we explore how analytic technologies can reduce the communication burden in healthcare and facilitate the delivery of outstanding care for the sickest patients.
